Akro Agate Bell-shape Powder and Perfume Containers
|
Akro produced these No. 725 bell-shaped 6" tall containers for distribution of Lander powders and colognes. Notice there are two styles of bells. The more common bell has a basket-weave pattern on its side. The crystal bell shown on the right side of the photo has vertical ribs and may be found with moderate searching. This style bell has also been found in a rare transparent green color. The photo shows the bells were sealed by a cardboard cap, and they also held a smaller bell-shaped jar (or in some cases multiple jars) that contained perfume. The basket weave style bells have been reproduced, especially in marbleized and transparent colors. Old bells produced by Akro Agate have six distinct panels at the end of the handle. Reproduction bells are round and smooth in this area. Most of the old bells are marked MADE IN U.S.A. near the area where the clanger is attached. In the early Bennett reproductions, this mark has been replaced by a "B." Later versions have no mark in this area.
