Co-Operative Flint
The Co-Operative Flint Glass company was located in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. In 1879 it was established as the Beaver Falls Co-Operative Flint Company. Beaver Falls was dropped from its name in 1889. This company made many gift and novelty items as well as pressed table ware. They made restaurant, hotel, and soda fountain items. They are perhaps best by Depression Glass collectors today for their fancy
figural animal boxes. They made cats, elephants, frogs, bears, fish, and dogs in transparent, flashed, satinized and opaque Depression colors. These boxes were used for powder or trinkets when they were purchased with a solid lid, but they also were made with a flower frog lid so that they could be used as a small vase. If you were a smoker, and many were during this time period, some of the boxes came with ashtray backs so that they could be used as cigarette holders. This company was to lose the battle with economic adversity that all companies fought during the Depression. In 1934 Co-Operative flint closed its doors due to financial difficulties.
