"Conestoga Wagon"
|
The "Conestoga Wagon" is a two-piece covered glass jar with the wagon bed used as the base and the canvas top and ribs acting as the lid. This jar is 6" long and was produced by the L. E. Smith Glass Company. It has been reissued several times since it first appeared in satin colors in the 1930's. The undersides of the bases of these early green satin and pink satin puff boxes are marked "RAMSES" in large letters. During the 1950's, this box was made in white milk glass, and during the 1970's, it was sold in crystal. Some of the milk pieces may have a fired-on colored finish. This covered wagon, made by Smith, is identified by its sway-back canvas top that is supported by eight ribs. The wagon bed has an axle grease bucket and a chain hanging in front of the rear wheels.
